
In 1976 a fourth draft had been prepared for principal photography. In the third draft he took out Annikin out and replaced him with Ben Kenobi. He created the character Luke Stakiller and made Annikin the father of Luke. In a second draft Lucas yet again simpiflied the idea. By 1974 he introduced elements such as the Sith, the Death Star and a main character Annikin Starkiller. He then wrote a thirteen page draft called The Star Wars. A few months later Lucas wrote a short summary called The Jounal of the Whills but thought it to complex for the public. Star Wars' early concepts were rejected by the studio but American Graffiti was released in 1973. The film along with American Graffiti was apart of a two picture with Universal Studios. The fictional universe also contains many themes, especially influences of philosophy and religion. Their weapon of choice, the lightsaber, is commonly recognized in popular culture. It commonly portrays Jedi as a representation of good, in conflict with the Sith, their evil counterpart. The franchise portrays a galaxy that is described as far, far away in the distant past. These media kept the franchise active in the interim between the film trilogies. These supplements to the film trilogies have resulted in significant development of the series' fictional universe.
